Hope CommUnity Center Business Manager

Position Overview

Hope Community Center is searching for a Full Time Business Manager. The Manager should be a strategic, visionary leader with the skills and experience to provide direction for all activities related to administration, human resources, office management, development and facilities asset management. The Manager is responsible for development and implementation of annual budgets, cash flow, creation of program budgets, financial reporting, policies and procedures, and goals in each of these areas. The Manager reports to an executive staff member of HCC and HCC’s Board of Directors, is a member of the Leadership Team and works closely with the Leadership Team, founders, Board Treasurer, Development Director, and others to ensure that his or her responsibilities are effectively and consistently delivered.

Essential Functions

  • Develop strong working relationships with each Program Director at Hope
  • Instill and support a sense of cooperation and accountability among Program Directors and develop an intimate understanding of the various programs/services offered by each of Hope’s Program Departments
  • Provide strategic thinking relative to the interconnectedness and synergy among Hope’s various programs/services in order to achieve Hope’s vision and mission
  • Develop and implement strategies and approaches for supporting Hope’s Program Directors
  • Support Program Directors in defining the various roles within their own teams of staff
  • In collaboration with Hope’s Program Directors, incorporate Popular Education theory and practice into Hope’s programs/services
  • Work with Hope’s Program Directors regarding Department staffing issues including ensuring that both Program Directors and their staffs receive regular performance evaluations
  • In collaboration with Program Directors, work to allocate building space and resources to accommodate Hope’s programs and services
  • Assist Program Directors and Hope’s Volunteer Coordinator to develop clear volunteer responsibilities and effectively engage volunteers to contribute to program outcomes
  • Serve on Hope’s Leadership Team, attend Board of Director meetings as requested and represent Hope at appropriate meetings and community events

Program Evaluation

  • Work with Hope’s Director of Program Development to understand the various evaluation requirements contained in each active grant
  • Develop, in conjunction with Program Directors, a data collection and evaluation process/system that responds to both Hope’s evaluation interests as well as grant requirements
  • In collaboration with Program Directors, oversee data collection and evaluation processes


  • Develops and monitors annual organization and program budgets and maintains cash flow
  • Seeks Leadership Team approval of program budgets prior to distributing program budgets to Program Directors
  • Responsible for account payables and receivables
  • Monitors bank account and investments and keeps the Board and Leadership Team informed
  • Maintains ongoing communications with the Board Treasurer
  • Provides status of HCC’s financial condition by providing ongoing update to the Leadership Team and Board of Directors
  • Provides financial information for annual reports and other financial reports
  • Prepares grant financial reports
  • Oversees the completion of the Financial Audit, Form 990, quarterly UTC6, Annual Report and 941 forms
  • Strives to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Liaison to HCC’s outsourced CPA
  • Oversees the implementation of the Payroll Function
  • Coordinates with the Development Director on fundraising activities

Human Resources:

  • Works closely with the Leadership Team on all hiring decisions and job descriptions
  • Creates job postings, and manages all employment processes and requirements
  • Responsible for new staff induction process including orientation
  • Maintains HR files
  • In conjunction with Program Directors, approve staff professional development/training
  • Administers all employee benefit programs and regulations, training materials and procedures in collaboration with the Diocese of Orlando, and attends meetings such as Diocesan Business Manager Meetings
  • In consultation with the Diocesan Human Resources Office, ensures compliance with Diocesan policies and procedures 


  • Develops consistent and fair HCC policies that comply with all federal and state regulations and that reflect HCC’s management philosophy and culture
  • Works with Diocesan Finance Office to coordinate HCC’s property and liability and workers compensation insurance programs
  • Oversees office policies and supervises part time Bookkeeper
  • Supervises Development Director
  • Negotiates and maintains all corporate insurance policies and contracts with external businesses
  • Responsible for facilities and asset management for both campuses

Other Job Functions:

  • Support annual and extraordinary HCC events (Toy sale, Thanksgiving dinner, anniversary celebrations, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting from an accredited university. Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices. 5 to 10 years of business experience at least three years supervisory experience in related field
  • Attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for social, racial, gender, worker justice and HCC’s mission and vision
  • Experience in nonprofit management a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database management and QuickBooks
  • Familiarity with social media.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule and travel locally
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Preferred Bilingual
