Description

Hope CommUnity Center (HCC) is looking for a full-time Director for its successful Service Learning program. The position requires implementing Service Learning practices for Hope CommUnity Center by administratively preparing and facilitating HCC’s Service Immersion program with college and high school students, supporting the HCC Service Learning team (families, storytellers, presenters), and supervising Service Learning program employees and volunteers.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the transition and development of Service Learning Program towards Popular Education Community Organizing Model – "Hope CommUniversity."
  • Administratively and logistically prepare HCC Immersion program, by arranging farm-work and other experiential activities, like a discussion at FWAF.
  • Work with Service Learning Team by preparing families to host immersion experiences by informing them of how the hosting process works, getting to know the families, and meeting with them before and after Immersion experiences.
  • Prepare storytellers and other community leaders, including members of the youth panel, to share their knowledge and experiences with Immersion participants.
  • Facilitate single-day, weekend, and weekend immersions (both in-person and virtual), delegating roles to different members of the team.
  • Maintain partnerships with partner community organizations like Farmworker Association of FL, Homes in Partnership, FL Immigrant Coalition, Central FL Jobs with Justice, and Contigo Fund.
  • Develop HCC Advocacy framework and organizing model.
  • Connect Immersion Alumni and community members with advocacy activities on local, state, and national levels.
  • Create contracts and invoices for partner schools and maintain records of payment and pending information and needs from partner schools.
  • Seek out new partnerships with High Schools and Universities, specifically seeking institutions that bring openness to experience and desired competency and preparation.
  • Maintain relationships with Staff at Partner Schools to ensure the partnership is reciprocal and ongoing.
  • Maintain a system that tracks Host Families and Immersion Participants.
  • Visit local colleges like Seminole State College, Valencia College, University of Central Florida, and Rollins College to promote the Service Learning program, recruit new volunteers, & spread services available at HCC.
  • Create a system for effective contact for Immersion Alumni, providing them with news, information, & opportunities for their continued involvement through volunteering, AmeriCorps, & Donations.
  • Create a system to maintain and develop complex Service Learning Education Modules to be implemented with immersion participants and the host community.
  • Supervise work of Service Learning Team
  • Provide guidance for HCC’s work with LGBTQ+/Latinx Community as part of Contigo Fund.
  • Support NDA Site Director by occasionally facilitating education modules for the AmeriCorps team.
  • Actively participate in Staff Meetings and Program Director Meetings.
  • Participate in Staff Development and training at Hope CommUnity Center.
  • Other tasks as needed and assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience with service-learning projects preferred
  • Enjoys working with youth, typically high school and college-age, as well as adults.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required- Good communication skills
  • Ability to facilitate groups Bilingual in English and Spanish – Good communication skills, invitational, and outgoing.
  • A self-starter and independent worker, ability to prioritize.
  • A commitment to building community and the ability to relate to people of different cultures and traditions.
  • Be welcoming & collaborative with host families, SL participants, & staff who come from diverse backgrounds.
  • Has transportation to go to the farm, service sites, and host families.
  • Able to oversee Service Learning team in congruence with HCC’s circular model of leadership.
  • Well organized and detailed oriented.
  • Open to multi-cultural experiences and enthusiasm to engage in community-building activities.

Working Hours
Mondays-Fridays 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM [Schedule will vary, especially during peak period from January to July]. Weekend availability required for weekend immersions and mini-immersions. Full-time 40 hours/week. Expect to work consecutive weekends.
