Notre Dame Mission Volunteer AmeriCorps Site Director
Description

Join a national network of colleagues seeking to support Notre Dame AmeriCorps members in educational and social justice non-profit settings. As Site Director for Notre Dame AmeriCorps -Apopka, you will have the opportunity to recruit, train, and place Notre Dame AmeriCorps members within community organizations and schools whose focus is to empower youth and adults through education. This position is employed by and housed at Hope CommUnity Center (1016 N. Park Ave. Apopka, FL) a grassroots organization founded by three Sisters of Notre Dame in 1971.

Responsibilities

1) RECRUIT, SELECT, PLACE, AND OVERSEE MEMBERS AT LOCAL SERVICE SITES IN COORDINATION WITH NATIONAL OFFICE STAFF

  • Recruit a team of 20-25 Notre Dame AmeriCorps – Apopka members from both the local community and nationally (using My AmeriCorps Portal, conducting outreach, answering questions, interviewing, checking references and selecting.) Responsible for team on-boarding and exiting processes
  • Working in the community, secure mission-aligned member service placements (Partnering Sites) in area schools and non-profit organizations
  • Maintain relationships with Partnering Sites and obtain formal Partnering Site agreements
  • In conjunction with local Partnering Sites, develop mission-aligned member service descriptions

2) ENSURE THAT SERVICE REQUIREMENTS ARE MET

  • Ensure members are entering biweekly timesheets in OnCorps and that they are approved by Site Supervisor and/or Site Director in OnCorps
  • With assistance of the National Office, develop and maintain service objectives/program evaluations for the program
  • Be familiar with the AmeriCorps resources and the National Service Resource center (www.nationalservice.gov/resources) in regard to member eligibility, prohibited activities, service requirements, benefits and general program management
  • Develop and/or maintain a process for measuring attainment of the program's objectives
  • Work to strengthen program identity through media recognition, program outreach activities, and encouraging members, when appropriate, to wear/carry gear showing the AmeriCorps logo
  • Work with members and their Site Supervisors to gather data and outcomes from their service sites and complete required reports that are sent to the National Office

3) PROVIDE ON-GOING SUPPORT AND TRAINING TO MEMBERS AND SITE PARTNERS

  • Plan and conduct bi-weekly sessions with the team that include, but are not limited to, the following: opportunities to do group service projects, process member service experiences, team-building and skill-building in these and other topics: leadership development, tutoring/teaching strategies, classroom management, conflict resolution, developing an ethic of service, cultural diversity, equity and inclusion, anti-racism, community strengths and needs, volunteer recruitment, current events and program evaluation processes. Trainings cannot exceed 20% of members’ service hours
  • Meet with members during the service year to maintain a supportive role in their service experience and to address issues that may arise
  • Visit Partnering Sites to support members and develop and strengthen relationships with Site Supervisors
  • Provide communication and interpretation on policies, procedures and program activities to members on an on-going basis
  • Offer input in planning the regional and national training events: a pre-service orientation in September and a mid-year event in February
  • Administer or assure members receive member evaluations to track member growth and success twice during the service year
  • If Apopka has community housing, oversee the rental arrangements

4) OVERSEE FINANCES FOR THE APOPKA SITE

  • On a monthly basis, send bills, invoices and requests for reimbursements to the National Office
  • Be familiar with approved site budget to make appropriate and necessary expenditures based on available funding
  • If program will accrue costs outside of approved budget, contact the NDA Executive Director for approval
  • Collect and track Partnering Site Fee Contributions from Partnering Sites and send to National Office as scheduled.

5) MISCELLANEOUS

  • Where applicable, assist members with community housing
  • Attend Site Director meetings 2 times per year
  • Participate in one regional and one national training event each term
  • Communicate with local media outlets to establish and promote NDA’s identity and service achievements
  •  Other tasks as delineated by the NDA or Hope CommUnity Center Executive Director
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in relevant field preferred
  • Experience working with volunteers and a diverse staff in a diverse community
  • Bilingual preferred
  • As part of Hope CommUnity Center's staff, this person will work collaboratively with Hope's staff, attend staff meetings, trainings, retreats, and community events. This position serves as a Program Director and as such, also attends Program Director meetings.
