Celebrating the Dedication and Passion of John Parrell:The Longest-Serving Volunteer at Hope CommUnity Center

Hope CommUnity Center is honored to recognize our longest-serving volunteer, John Parrell, during this Volunteer Appreciation Month. John’s unwavering commitment, dedication, and passion for service have been integral to the success of our organization and the communities we serve.

John joined Hope in 2012 as an ESOL teacher. Since then, he has contributed significantly to our citizenship program, served as a driver for our Adelante Caminantes students, and became a Department of Justice Accredited Representative at Hope. He is a true embodiment of the spirit of service that defines our organization.

In 2014, John’s love for service led him to become a Notre Dame AmeriCorps member at Hope, where he had the opportunity to work with young people and positively impact their lives. Despite completing his AmeriCorps service, John remained a volunteer in our citizenship program, where he continued to inspire and uplift those around him.

John’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. He played a vital role in applying for and obtaining the first grant that launched our Citizenship program in partnership with USCIS. In addition, his community outreach efforts have helped populate our classes and programs. John’s love of history and “herstory” has also been invaluable to our citizenship program. He has helped our students understand the importance of civic engagement and the role of immigrants in shaping our country’s history.

As a DOJ-accredited representative, John has provided legal services and advice to our community on immigration topics. His expertise, dedication, and compassion have helped countless individuals navigate the complex and often daunting immigration system.

In John’s words, “The work has always been its own reward.” His selfless service and passion for helping others have profoundly impacted the lives of those he has served. We are grateful for his tireless efforts and commitment to our mission.

John’s unwavering dedication to service and his passion for making a difference inspires us all. His contributions to our organization and the communities we serve are immeasurable, and we are proud to have him as a part of the Hope CommUnity Center family.

Thank you, John, for your service and for being an inspiration to us all.
