Dr. Ruth Edwards Receives Health Equity Hero 2021 Award from Florida Department of Health in Orange County

Winter Park Library Staff Member Recognized as Health Equity Hero 2021 Award Recipient from Florida Department of Health in Orange County

Every year, the Florida Department of Health in Orange County honors Health Equity Heroes within the community. This award is given to someone who best personifies the spirit of public health through a commitment to accelerating health equity throughout the community.

On Wednesday, August 4, 2021 our very own Director of Education, Dr. Ruth Edwards, was recognized as a Health Equity Hero for 2021 by the Florida Department of Health in Orange County. Representatives from the Department of Health awarded her with this recognition on the second floor of the Winter Park Library building.

Candidates were nominated for the Health Equity Hero 2021 Award and submissions were reviewed. Nominees needed to demonstrate thorough knowledge and experience in their field, leadership skills, compassion and sensitivity, participation in activities that serve to improve the community, and a passion and dedication in working to eliminate health disparities in the community.

Dr. Edwards was nominated by Min Sun Kim, Interim Executive Director for Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership, for her incredible work and collaboration with the Edyth Bush Institute.

Upon selection, the Florida Department of Health in Orange County presented the award to winners at their respective, individual locations. Audrey Alexander, Health Equity Coordinator, and Ellis Perez, Community Health Program Manager, presented Dr. Edwards with her award and recognized her efforts before an audience of her colleagues.

Library staff members enjoyed supporting and honoring Dr. Edwards for her tireless, passionate work on behalf of others. Congratulations to a valued member of our Library staff. Thank you, Dr. Ruth Edwards, for everything you do on behalf of the Winter Park community!
