HCC Statement Regarding the Police Murder of George Floyd

Hope Community Center joins in expressing our profound anguish and outrage over the senseless killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers. Mr. Floyd’s murder was yet further evidence of the brutal legacy of white supremacy and systemic racism in our country. It is also not lost on us that this event has occurred at a time when Black and Brown Americans are disproportionately ailing and dying during a global pandemic. The stark and violent inequities laid bare by recent events should serve as a call to action for meaningful change across our social, economic, and political landscapes.

HCC stands in solidarity with Black communities everywhere and joins the collective demand for justice and accountability. Racism and profound inequality are malignant forces that are tearing apart our communities and corroding our democratic institutions. We are committed to joining the difficult but necessary work to protect and cherish one another and save our beloved country.
