Hope's Statement in Response to Insurrection at Capitol on January 6th

We are still processing the atrocities we have witnessed from the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th.  A combination of right-wing, racist, fascist, and violent forces combined to subvert democracy via a violent coup.  It was deeply disturbing (and yet, unsurprising) to witness the stark difference in how last week’s rioters were treated by law enforcement compared to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) protesters during racial justice protests this past summer.

It is not enough to denounce the acts of last week.  Hope CommUnity Center is committed to dismantling white supremacy.  The task is difficult, and HCC is not without its limitations.  We are committed to having painful internal conversations.  We are committed to listening, learning, and acting in furthering this commitment to equity.  We will continuously support our community as we strive for a more peaceful world.
