seminole state scholars-01Alumni and current students of Hope’s scholarship partnership with Seminole State College met this week to discuss their involvement with the program. Students shared from their personal experiences including balancing studies with work and other responsibilities; dealing with their biggest challenges and frustrations; and celebrating in their successes and the benefits afforded to them through the scholarship. Gratitude was a feeling expressed by all, current students and alumni alike. Our students are studying Social Work, English & Creative Writing, Mechanical Engineering, Accounting, and Digital Media, among many other disciplines. Since this scholarship program for undocumented students began in 2012, four graduates have already completed their A.A. degrees and continue studying to earn their bachelor’s degrees. Multiple students expressed that they feel like a valued member of the Seminole State community, recognized by being part of the scholarship cohort.

This year, Seminole State College has announced that they will expand this scholarship partnership with Hope CommUnity Center, providing tuition support for up to 20 undocumented students. To qualify, students must be high school graduates and will ideally meet requirements to pay in state tuition (meaning 1) they completed 10th, 11th, and 12th grades in Florida, 2) they graduated with a standard high school diploma and 3) they applied and were accepted to a college/university within 24 months of their high school graduation). If you are an undocumented student interested in this scholarship program, or if you know someone who might be interested, please call 407-880-4673 ext. 229 or e-mail [email protected].
